Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is the kind of RPG that respects your thumbs. Combat is turn-based but paced quickly, and the party of four heroes each have distinct roles you'll actually use rather than one auto-attacking star and three benchwarmers. I spent a while just experimenting with skill combos before I even touched the main quest.
The story follows a border town swallowed by a spreading ash and the mismatched group that goes looking for the source. It leans on familiar fantasy beats, but the writing has a dry sense of humor that kept me reading the dialogue instead of skipping it. Progression is generous enough that grinding rarely feels mandatory.
Menus are the one rough spot — inventory management gets fiddly once you're deep in. But the fights, the pacing, and the world are strong enough that I kept coming back.
